Detailed Information

Young Architects Workshop (YAW) is a design program founded in 2014 by architectural designer and educator Marcus Monroe with the aim of promoting diversity in design. Situated within the Brentwood Arts Exchange in Brentwood, MD, YAW offers a multi-week design intensive studio experience for aspiring architects. The program is unique in that it does not charge any fees for participation, and students are even provided with a stipend upon successful completion of the workshop.

YAW operates within the Gateway Arts Center, fostering a creative and collaborative environment for young architects to hone their skills and explore their passion for design. With a focus on hands-on learning and real-world applications, the workshop equips participants with the knowledge and tools necessary to succeed in the field of architecture. By offering this opportunity to students from diverse backgrounds, YAW contributes to the cultivation of a more inclusive and innovative design community.

Under the guidance of Marcus Monroe, YAW embodies a philosophy of empowerment and education, aiming to inspire the next generation of architects to think critically and creatively. By providing a platform for young talents to express their ideas and develop their design abilities, the workshop plays a crucial role in shaping the future of architecture. Through its commitment to diversity and excellence, YAW continues to make a significant impact on the architectural landscape, nurturing emerging talents and fostering a culture of innovation.
